Voting: A Perspective from the Fallen
Today we have the privilege to exercise our rights and freedoms as Americans. We are the land of the free and the home of the brave right? From sea to shiny sea? The image of the original vision of our Founding Fathers is fading. Let’s face it.
Today Americans are encouraged to vote. In my opinion, if you do not vote, then you do not have the right to ever complain about any of the issues with our country or government. Even though they are plentiful, and it is absolutely not perfect by any means. However, today we vote. This is one of the reasons that millions of American soldiers have given their life for. What ever your opinion may be, whomever your presidential candidate of choice may be, respect others and appreciate the fact that we are free to choose to believe as we choose to believe. Yet another freedom.
I don’t remember the exact date however it was late 2004 early 2005 on a Sunday morning. I

was attending a church in rural Indiana. The pastor relayed the news that 100,000 Iraqi people had just voted that day. The fight that we were engaged in allowed those people the same freedom that we share today. There was plenty of bloodshed leading up to that day.
My brother was numbered amongst the ones that gave their life for the Iraqi people to vote that day. Tears streamed down my cheeks when I heard that. I remember the fact that those citizens had been exposed to a freedom that we at times take for granted. Take advantage of your freedom today, please do not take it for granted. I choose to not allow my brothers life to be in vain. Over 230 years ago a group of rebels rallied together and stood for something. In God they put their trust and stood for the rights and liberties of the individual. Today we take advantage of those. I have to say that this is not a “normal” post for me however I want us to realize that we are a blessed nation and people have died to make it that way.
Enjoy the day. Vote.
