How to NOT get a job
This news report hit the streets with many mixed feelings. I am sure that we have all probably thought about doing something like this but never had the guts to actually do it. This sue happy lady in NYC (of course it was a New Yorker) sues her college because she did not get a job.
Sorry to burst her bubble however companies hire people not diplomas. Companies hire an individual that can interview like a champion. Companies hire people who are engaging, responsive and able to build a relationship. Companies hire people that read my book, The 10 Key Interviewing Techniques. LOL! Unfortunately we will see a trend where more and more Colleges and Universities will begin to outsource this risk to external Career Services and get more involved with investing in this capability.
NEW YORK – A New York City woman who says she can’t find a job is suing the college where she earned a bachelor’s degree.
Trina Thompson filed a lawsuit last week against Monroe College in Bronx Supreme Court. The 27-year-old is seeking the $70,000 she spent on tuition.
Thompson says she’s been unable to find gainful employment since she received her information technology degree in April.
She says the Bronx school’s Office of Career Advancement hasn’t provided her with the leads and career advice it promises.
Monroe College spokesman Gary Axelbank says Thompson’s lawsuit is completely without merit.
The college insists it helps its graduates find jobs.

What I don’t get was that she had a 2.8 gpa as well. Obviously she didn’t put forth the investment into her education

This was a poor decision from the start. I don’t know what could have possessed her to think that a lawsuit would somehow make her more employable. If she actually wanted to be employed, surely she would run a million miles away from a lawsuit? I doubt that many graduate jobs are open to people who file senseless lawsuits.
