GOT JOBS? Anywhere in Ohio?

When you think of a government website what do you think of? Have you ever tried to go onto your local city or county .gov site? How about tax season to look up forms or to get information. Well it typically is an uneasy process. I had the pleasure of attending a seminar for the community that was promoting Cleveland with hopes to improve the image and perception of the “mistake on the lake” as some call it. I happen to call it home.

Regardless, during that seminar the State Government discussed a careersite for employers and job seekers in hopes of boosting economic job stability. This is not a typical dot gov site. It is officially a dot.com with colors and good functionality. Go to http://www.ohiomeansjobs.com/

There are two sections to the site.
ONE (job seekers): There is a job aggregator that searches the web for all of the job postings currently in OHIO. So basically it is a full Ohio job board. I like the ability that you, as a job seeker, can define the search to specifically what you want. In this image, I did a search for “Project Manager”. You can search keyword specific skill sets, define geography within Ohio, a specific company and even define it further based on salary expectations.

TWO (employers): The second part is for employers. Employers will have the ability to access a database of thousands of resumes of anyone that is in Ohio or within 50 Miles of an Ohio border. I attempted to connect with the Project Manager last week for this site however my call was not returned. I was told during the meeting that there were current negotiations between two leading career sites to have access to their entire resume database for the last three years. I am not 100% sure how this functionality will work as they have not been able to finalize these contracts and go live with this portion of the site. The job aggregator works extremely well and I hope that it will expose the right people to the right companies that may not have happened before.

Linkedin was added to the About.com Top 10 Employment site list with 2 other sites but linkedin is still the only social netwoking site on the list. 3 newest job sites on top list are:

    http://www.linkedin.com (professional networking)
    http://www.indeed.com (aggregated job listings)
http://www.realmatch.com (matches you to the perfect job)

Good luck to all those searching for jobs.
