7 Differentiators to Getting Hired – Technology
Really? Technology is a differentiator in my job search?
Never before in history have we had four different generations working side by side in the marketplace. Those groups are the Civics, Boomers, Gen X and Gen Y. Talk about a diverse range of not only ages but of technical capabilities. If a human resource generalist, who is more entry level and possibly Gen Y, is handling the resume of a Boomer for example and the Gen Y HR Generalist asks the person to send them a text to set up the interview. If we do not interact with technology it will blow by us allowing us to miss opportunities.
We can also throw social networking and branding into the mix. There are countless stories of people connecting and networking and even landing jobs via social media. I had the pleasure of recruiting and individual almost exclusively via twitter and instant messaging. I only talked with him two times and that was to finalize his offer. The entire thing was done “virtually” if you will.
Technology can be a huge differentiator is we embrace it. It can also be a boat anchor if we allow it to stand in the way as a road block to landing a job.
