7 Differentiators to Getting Hired – Relationship

As a continuation to this mini-series on the Differentiating Facts, Don Hutson, ultra sales trainer has proven that differentiator # 3 is all about relationship.  I happen to feel that relationship is extremely important asset to getting hired.

FACT: 71% of all career opportunities come from networking.  Less than 25% come from a job posting like a newspaper ad or even a job board

Networking (built in relationships) WORKS!  Your relationships with people can be your key to landing a job or not.  In a free ebook here on the home page of theinterviewgurus.com there are some proven ways in leveraging your personal relationships and more importantly contacting them.

Check out this idea.  Draw a line on a piece of paper, on one end write the word STRESS, one the other end TRUST.  In relationships, it is key to continually move toward building relationships of trust and here is why.  The moving piece (or word) between Stress and Trust are “details”

So why is this important?  Stick with me a little longer, let me explain.  Think about it, when you have a great trusting relationship with someone, the details of things really don’t matter as much.  In an interviewing situation, let’s say that you do not know the person you will be interviewing.  This will now be a test to your ability to develop trusting relationships.  If you feel like you get crushed with interrogating questions, like, why this, where that, how much, explain that, tell me numbers, can you be more specific, etc. etc. more than likely you did not really connect with that person and that it was a stressed interview.

ON THE OTHER HAND, if you found that it was a conversation, less detailed questions (there will always be some, its an interview) and more of a free flowing human interaction on the most natural levels, the trust was developed and the details were not longer as important.  A bond was created.

How do you feel about that?

The Relationship is a key differentiator in you getting hired.  Much continued success!
